 Port 25 Blocked

It is becoming more and more common for Internet Service Providers to block outgoing email on Port 25. They do this in an effort to reduce spam.

You can find out whether this is happening in your case with a telnet test. At the command prompt, type:

telnet example.com 25

Use your own domain name instead of EXAMPLE.COM.

If the telnet test times out or can't connect, this indicates that your ISP is blocking Port 25. In that case, you should contact your ISP and ask how to use their outgoing mail server. Your email will still be coming from your own email address; it will just route through their servers instead of Jumpline's servers.

 Reproduce the Problem

Try sending to an email address that's different from the one you're having trouble with. You can easily set up a free email account at Google, Yahoo, or Hotmail for testing.

Incorrect Username and Password, 5.7.1 Relaying Denied

It's possible that the advanced settings in your email client for your outgoing server (SMTP) are incorrect. In fact, Apple Mail and related products (iPhone, iPad) do not let you configure the correct settings when you first set up the account. The best solution for this issue is to re-enter the outgoing server settings in your email client, taking care to use the following settings:

  • Turn on password authentication. Your username is your full email address, including the "@EXAMPLE.COM" part. Your password is the email password that you set on the server.
  • Use Security type None or SSL (note that if you use SSL security, you may get a warning about your SSL certificate when you try to send email).

 Server Not Found

  1. Make sure that you are currently online. If you are currently viewing this article, you are probably online. Or, try visiting your favorite website to test this.
  2. If you have recently made a DNS change, wait 48 hours for the change to propagate.
  3. Check the Port 25 Blocked section above to make sure your network connection is working.
  4. Make sure your server name, username, and password are entered correctly in your local email client. See theIncorrect Username or Password section above.

Mailbox Full, Quota Exceeded, Could Not Create Output File

This message usually indicates that your recipient's mailbox is full. You will get the same error if you try to send to them from a different email address. Notify your recipient about the problem over the telephone so they can free up some space.

It's also possible that your own Sent folder is full, if you store your sent messages on your server (rather than just on your local computer).

Rejected: User does not exist, No such address

This indicates that your recipient's mailbox may recently have been deleted. If you've been able to send to this email address before, check for typos.
